Local Produce


Sorrento and the Amalfi coast are well known for large, magnificent citrus. A variety of goods are produced with these limoni, such as Limoncello, a lemon liqueur and lemon soap.


The region is famous for its hand-crafted inlaid wood furniture, music boxes and artefacts. Also hand-made leather shoes, jewellery and ceramics are very popular.



Shopping


Via Toledo is Naples’s mainstream shopping high street. Chiaia and Piazza dei Martiri is the place to go for more boutique designer labels. Via Port d’Alba and via dei Tribunali are lined with junk stalls and booksellers. For a true Napoli-style shopping experience head to Porto Nolana for the daily fish market.

'SCRAJO Terme-Center Comfort' is located near Vico Equense there are thermal baths with sulphuric springs, rich in therapeutic qualities.

You can also admire antique shops in Vico Equense, Sorrento and the surrounding area. Italians have been trading in antiques for centuries.



Food


Italy is most famous for its pizza and it is impossible to visit Italy without eating a pizza, after all pizza was invented and trasformed in Naples! Pizza are cooked in bread ovens and are fed firewood to reach a high temperature which cooks the pizza quickly and perfectly, with the oven enhancing its flavour. You can order pizzas by the metre, half metre, a 'calzone' (folded in half and sealed around the edges) or a traditional round pizza with any topping of your choice. It is reasonably priced in most areas and is garanteed not to disappoint. Cheese, of all varieties, is hand made by dairymen who have the secrets of the trade handed down generation after generation throughout the region of 'Campania'.
Mozzarella is probably the most famous and is used on most pizzas, but 'provolone', 'caciocavello' and 'ricotta' are all well worth tasting. Seafood is served fresh in most restaurants or can be bought from the local markets and fish shops.
Arguably some of the best wines come from Italian grapes. In Italy you can enjoy your favourite Italian wines for much less than you would pay elsewhere.

Sight-Seeing on Sorrento Peninsula and Amalfi Coast

The Neapolitan Riveria is made up of numerous beautiful places including; Amalfi, Positano, Sorrento, Capri, Ischia, Procida, Pompeii, Ravello and Naples.


The Bay of Naples offers one of the most breathtaking coastlines in Europe. Just imagine a slender ribbon road winding along the jagged steep cliffs that plunge into crystal clear waters. Pass through the beautiful old fishing towns squeezed between the more popular stylish resorts along the southern tip of Sorrento's peninsula and the famous Amalfi coast. This is one of the most spectacular coastlines renowned for tempting seafood, fine wines and the warmth of its charming people.Sorrento has narrow streets and quiet squares, like Piazza Tasso which is brimming with excellent restaurants, bars and cafés. There are many trendy shops from one-off boutiques to top names including Max Mara, Gucci and Armani. From Sorrento you can take coaches or hovercrafts to Capri, Ischia, Amalfi and Positano.Monte Faito offers one of the best views in Italy. You can admire the bay of Naples, Mont Vesuvius, the islands of Capri, Ischia and Procida. Situated 1000 metres above sea level its views are literally breath-taking! Once the most important trading port in the southern Italy, Amalfi is in the ravine of the Mulini Valley, its churches, towers and arcaded houses rising above the small harbour. The town's Duomo dominates a long flight of steps and embraces a picturesque piazza stretching to its seafront. A wonderful contrast between fine beaches in front and tall cliffs behind.A vibrant village with narrow, colourful buildings which cascade like a waterfall down a vertiginous hill to the sea. Positano's town centre meanders down to the waterfront, where a profusion of cafes, bars and restaurants sell fresh seafood. The beach air is filled with the perfume of orange, almond blossom and jasmine.Procida is a quaint and colourful island with lots of character. The narrow, winding walled streets of the town cover the expanse of the island and are quietly surrounded by the coastline, which is cloaked in volcanic black sand. The island is very small and can easily be walked around in three or four hours.

Ischia is the largest of the Partenopean Islands which include Capri, Procida and Vivara. It is volcanic with an abundance of vegetation and thermal springs. Pretty coastal villages are scattered over the island and local restaurants serve fresh seafood and produce. Ischia is home to the famous 'Mortella' gardens created by the English composer Sir William Walton. Capri is, unquestionably, the holiday princess of the Italian islands: idyllic and rugged with its shimmering Blue Grotto and cliffs that descend down into the sea. Capri has trendy jewellery shops and designer boutiques. Panoramic vistas at each and every turn, the island is also a culinary treat with its picturesque restaurants offering exquisitely prepared seafood.In the hills inland from the Amalfi coast, Ravello is a quiet village with specular views of the whole peninsula and vast expanse of turquoise water. Ravello is a popular location for British weddings with its cathedral, medieval villas filled with art and glorious majestic public gardens.Villa Rufolo, Ravello, was built during the XII century, thanks to the Rufolo Family. The entrance of the villa is on the main square of Ravello.
Villa Cimbrone, like Ravello's other villa, was built in the XII century over the Roman villa ruins. In this villa there is a cloister, from the garden you can see a wonderful panorama.



Pompeii and Herculaneum are cities buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD and re-discovered in the 18th century. It is possible to drive to 3,200 feet and then trek to its summit to enjoy the mesmerising views of the entire gulf of Naples. Pompeii is one of the most important Roman archaeological sites in the world and Vesuvius is the only active volcano in Europe.Naples is one of the most vibrant Italian cities. It has a lovely bay with wonderful views of the islands. You can wander through the famous 'spaccanapoli', with its church of Santa Chiara. Visit the Royal Palace, the elegant Piazza Plebiscito and the Galleria Umberto I. The history of Naples dates back to 8th century BC, when the Greeks founded 'Neapolis'.

Santa Maria del Castello is situated 670 metres above sea level. It offers spectacular views of Positano, Monte Faito and the bay of Naples. Popular with walkers, it takes only 20 minutes to reach Positano on foot. Between Santa Maria del Castello's bridge and Positano there are four footpaths.

From UK to the Bay of Naples

Mr and Ms Brit,
Firstly, Alfonso, thank you very much we had a wonderful time!
Secondly, I have been very honest in this response and this is to do with our connection. If you were someone that I did not know I probably would have just given a bland response, so please forgive me if this is not acceptable to you.
Vico Equense is a lovely place and the hotel was excellent. The staff were friendly, kind and helpful, the rooms clean and well presented. We had the magnificent sea view that I had requested and transportation was easy as the station was only down the road.Our only criticism would be about the lunch.Breakfast was good and offered a variety of different dishes to cater for the international preferences. However we chose to have lunch there one day and were very disappointed. The pasta was under-cooked and the salmon and vegetables were over-cooked. Maybe the chef was having a bad day! Everywhere else that we had eaten in Vico the food had been excellent.
However the travelling to and from Pozzuoli from here took four hours each time and as it was the purpose of our visit we felt that we were a long way from our destination.Pozzuoli was very different from Vico Equense, much to do and see here and boat trips from the harbour to various islands. It felt more authentically Italian as less locals spoke English and although there were many visitors passing through, it still didn't feel geared up to the tourist trade quite as much as Sorrento or the places on the other side of the bay. We certainly would suggest finding a hotel here for you to recommend. The historic sites and volcanoes are all here within walking distance, albeit a long walk, but not so much recourse to travelling on public transport on a daily basis.
If we returned to the Amalfi coast, it would be where we would choose. That is our own take on what we want from a holiday, more Italy less English speaking,easy access to the places we wish to visit and very importantly for me....access to the sea. It was lovely to see the sea in Vico but everything was a long climb down and back up to get to it. Pozzuoli is at sea level so it was accessible all the time.
Having said this I would not have missed the experience for the world, but rather too much travelling and not enough being at the destination.
We appreciate that it is very difficult to choose holidays for others as everyone has a different take on what they want from a holiday. I am being honest with you as I feel that it may be of more benefit to you than me saying ' Oh it was all lovely thank you very much '.
We are both most grateful for your help with this holiday, as I am sure that if we had tried to do this on our own it would not have worked out very well.We have had the most wonderful experiences and seen the most beautiful places that we will remember for a life time....and you can quote me on that.

It was a fantastic weekend. Everything went well and we are very happy, the choices Alfonso helped us to make ensured we had a great time.
The property is very beautiful and scenic, also we enjoyed brilliant sunshine and warmth. The rooms were beautiful and even the breakfast buffet had a huge choice of both sweet and savoury food of a high quality.
Me and my brother, Andrew, didn't think twice about diving into the sea after the long flight of steps to reach the beach.
I have no words to describe the restaurant: EXCELLENT, PROFESSIONAL AND NICE FOOD SIMPLY SUPERB. They even gave us a great discount on the price, which surprised us all.
I thank you again Alfonso for everything you did for us, it was a weekend that will remain in the history of our family.

Everything went very smoothly and we had a lovely time. I can highly recommend the Hotel Flora and Inis? sends her best wishes to Alf!!
We ate in the Ara Anua restaurant as recommnede by Francesca. The food was amazing but massive portions! The first time we shared an antipasto and had a steak each but couldn't eat it all. The second time we shared the antipasto and the steak but still struggled with it all!!
We had a really warm sunny week so it's not pleasant to come home to today's weather! It will be even worse going back to work tomorrow.
We are thinking of going to sardinia next year so may be in touch again!
